A point of clarification: Jim McClements is correct to quote my having
said I leave arisaemas "out on a bench in a cool area", but I do
eventually get them bagged up for storage, some time between Thanksgiving
and Christmas. The largest tubers are just wrapped individually in
newspaper, placed in plastic grocery bags loosely closed, and stashed in =a
cold corner of the basement (but remember, up here in the far north, in a
normal winter, that cold corner probably does get pretty cold: 40-45F,
e.g.). Smaller ones get packed in *barely* moist peat moss in plastic
bags, and tossed in the old fridge that I bought for the purpose (note
that old fridges are not "frost free", hence are probably better for tube=r
storage, as they're not constantly warming up and then evacuating the
moist air. They're cheap, too, if you can find them, and there's no need
to run them for the part of the year when you have nothing to store in
them. They also come in handy for the holiday overflow of food and
beverages, if they aren't already full of plant material). Sometimes
larger tubers end up in the fridge too, wrapped in newspaper and plastic,
as described above. I've never had any problems with winter storage - I
kill my tubers in summer, when they get hot and wet.

Ellen
