The real problem here is that bathycoleum is in section Attenuata, which
restricts it to 3 leaflets. Sp #1 (A-04) has more than 3. I think the number
of leaflets, not the number of leaves, is what's taxonomically significant,
although, like you, I make no claims at taxonomic expertise. But if you look
at the first page of the Flora of China paper (right after the index) you'll
see that the key to the sections makes this clear.
