I think your solution is to use the cmbright package as can be seen in the 
attached file.
You probably have the cmbright.sty in your installation, however since ipe runs 
pdflatex you need a type1 version of the fonts. Those were not installed on my 
box, you might have to add them. They are called hfrbight and can be found at 
CTAN http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/ps-type1/hfbright/
