Coincidentally, I just uploaded a new version of Ipe to Debian
today that fixes this bug.  Hopefully a simple update will fix
your problem.

If you're using a debian system, it's pretty easy to rebuild it from
the Debianized sources which may be obtained using "apt-get source ipe".
