[Arisaema-l] ID problem: fargesii or franchetianum

Very interesting indeed! As you say, your specimen, that has a spathe of franchetianum and a leaf of fargesii, shows that both could well be considered one species only. With regard to the variation of the species, fargesii should then be a synonym of franchetianum, not even a variety. But in the Flora of China, the distinction is based on the shape of the inflorescence and both species are taken into consideration.
All the best.

> The huge central leaflet (see first picture) would lean towards fargesii. However, the extreme curvature of the spathe limb beyond a full circle is typical of the variety of A. franchetianum known as purpureogaleatum (see page 255 of the book). But the last photo shows the recurving of the mouth-margins (like the fargesii description). Finally, the end of the spathe tip (see 2d photo) seems to me as intermediate between the long thread of the franchetianum and the narrow shorter extension of fargesii.
