I have had a stand of A. ringens for quite a few years now. Probably 8 or 9.
This is my first year to have couple of seed pods develop. Looking very
viable. The remaining 40 to 50 plants are withering and going dormant now. I
blamed a late hard freeze on lack of seed formation. Some of my plants were
killed back to the ground and that is the first time it has ever happened to
ringens. Normally they are super impervious to late frosts.

I've had my ringens for over 20 years now, thriving and blooming like a fool
as early as February every year. Six or seven years ago it FINALLY set seed
for the very first time. I cleaned them that fall and planted them the
following spring. Within 2 years they were blooming too and now I have them
planted all over my garden. Seems like I'm seeing more seed heads mature
these days although most still wither.
My experience is that it's not that common and yes you will get viable
seeds.
