Thanks to Tony & Adam for mentioning apomixis. I forget too often about i=t=
&=A0
there's some fruit I have that can really only be explained by it.=A0 I='m=
pretty methodical
about tracking my results with lot designations and serial numbers. I'll=
certainly share
the histories & outcomes of any crosses that actually pan out upon flower=i=
ng.=A0=A0
When Arisaema-L was a newborn list in 1997, there was some discussion abo=u=
t apomixis. A quick search of the archives yielded a few opinions (some i=n=
my deathless prose) on the subject. =A0Just go to the archives and typ=e=
"apomixis" in the blank space.
I also seem to recall an earlier discussion on Aroid-L about whether apom=i=
xis occurred in aroids. Perhaps Ray Stilwell will recall some of that. In==
1997 none of the experts were certain about that, especially in arisaema=s=
=2E
If anyone knows of anything more definitive now, it would be of considera=b=
le interest. I still think that some of the reports may be the result of=
a plant in the process of changing to female still having a few male flo=w=
ers.
=A0
Sidenote: how many people have tried speeding up the seasons artificially=?=
I have=A0my=A0
2009 seedex seedlings in my fridge, but am unsure if I want to take them=
out=A0
after 3 months (January)=A0or wait till spring.=A0I'm curious about h=ow st=
ressful it may be
and whether it impedes a healthy transition to outdoor living.=A0
I've had quite a bit of experience inducing seed germination by washing s=e=
eds in a detergent, and germinating them in a damp paper towel, a techniq=u=
e learned from Ray Stilwell. Check the following entry in the archives.
