I just had a talk with Roger Gossler of Gossler Farms Nursery in
Springfield, OR, a well-known magnolia and woody plant nursery. He said t=hat
last year he had a bumper crop of Arisaema sikokianum seed and he planted=it
all without cleaning it at all. He said that it came up like cress. I hav=e
never tried planting uncleaned seed, following the common advice that it
must be cleaned.

Have others planted uncleaned seed? of other species? What was the result=?
It would be wonderful to not have to go through the hassle of cleaning th=e
seed (except for sending in to the exchange) for planting. I do know that
often information gets repeated by author after author as common wisdom
without anyone actually checking to see whether the information is true, =for
example, the common "wisdom" not to prune daphnes.

In a message dated 7/8/08 5:50:38 PM, studio.pozzitaubert at TISCALI.IT writ=es:

The seeds ripened in July may germinate in two weeks after starting the
Deno_McClement's method and the

tuberlet are about 8/10 mm in late September.

I don't take credit for the idea of washing seed with detergent. I got it
from Ray Stilwell.
