Hi All

Having reported recently that my nepenthoides was not showing, a bit of=warm weather over last two days and it is just pushing its nose up throu=gh the soil.
No sign yet of ringens, should be up by now.
Will keep all posted.

Hey Tony (and others).

Well, we should probably hold off on the congratulations until next spr=ing! I give watti little to no chance here in this climate. Last year n=epenthoides, speciosum, and other Himalayans bloomed then crashed - but I=blame that on soil retaining too much moisture. Killed several that way=. I'm trying a few again this year in different soil. It is interesting=to note that the costatum blooming now is one of last summer's survivors=, as is the amurense. I figure the Japanese varieties should be easier f=or me in this climate. My urashimas and ringens have been kicking around=here for almost 20 years now, the others are new but I don't anticipate =trouble from them. Probably shouldn't have said that.

I love to hear what everyone is growing, and its progress. I'd especia=lly like to know what has worked - and what hasn't - for any of you folks=in zones 7-9. I feel like I'm on a deserted island down here!

Thanks, Russell 8b

Here on the Gulf Coast the azaleas finished blooming 3 weeks ago so we =are well past "spring". It hasn't rained here since the first week of Ma=rch.

My old family of ringens planted in the garden were up and in full bloo=m the first of part of March, and the flowers still look good. Next was =wattii (the mysterious A-147), but the flowers lasted only a week. My am=urense from C. Y. bloomed for the second year and set seed. One of my iy=oanum ssp. nakaianums bloomed a month ahead of the second, and I noticed =that the first seems to be setting seed. Engleri and ternatipartitum hav=e already bloomed, and costatum is on its way out too. Kiushianum is in =all its glory right now.

Saxatile and thunbergii ssp. urashima are both up, but apparently still=too small to bloom. :-( Hopefully next year. Many others just breaking=the soil surface!
