Hi Giorgio,
I also received seeds from Eric and have your same
difficulty in finding potting mixtures as recomended
in gardening books or on the net. I always make my
own because I think that it is half the fun of growing
plants and in the long run is much easier to adapt it
to the needs of various plants.
This is how I germinated the seeds. First I soaked the
seeds in warm water, that then cooled to room
tepreature, for a day, each variety separated in a
labled plastic cup. Then I rinsed the seeds once a
day, in warm water, pouring off the excess water. The
same as making Mung Bean sprouts. After a week, when
the first roots began to appear, I potted them, in
sifted mainly oak leaf compost plus a little sand, in
a pot with good drainage. My idea is that Arisaema are
mostly shade loving plants. Shade is usually found
under trees where the ground is rich in leaf mold, so
that's probably the best medium for them to germinate
and grow in.
After 18 days (Today) all the A. flavum Giganteum have
a well developed leaf while other varieties are just
begining to appear above the soil.
Ciao,
Colin
