You know, Tony?  I'd not ever considered matters from that point of view.
It's worthy of consideration, and I think that it IS very much how I think,
but I'd not ever gotten the thought into consciousness in the form that you
state.

Agreed on CITES.  I think I'd like to know how it is that it seems to be
directed out of edinburgh.  But I should add that although they listed a
number of irises as extinct, (when there is some reason to believe that they
could not be), they are open to correction and indeed, invite correction  at
their website.  (Last time I looked.)
