Hi All,
The Tucker location has seen a 4-year drought with a total rainfall defic=it
of almost 50 inches over four years. That is a year's worth of rain.
Watering was severely restricted and I can report that it had absolutely =no
effect on the size of my large A. triphyllum forms. I do not know what
specific variant I have (other than it is an A. triphyllum species) and I=do
not know what the ploidy of this form has (I assume it is tetraploid [2n ==
56]). It sets seeds abundantly but wildlife makes off with most of them. =I
propagate it by using its plentiful rhizomatous extensions (they are ofte=n
called stolons, but the correct term is rhizomatous extension since it is=an
underground organ). The colony came from a creek bed with mostly clay muc=k
soil in a ravine about 1/2 mile from my home. I rescued all matter of
wildflowers before a large storm sewer line was inserted into the creek b=ed
to the detriment of all living things. Transfer to much drier conditions =did
not affect the plants's size. I have had the plants for about 10 years.
Regards, George
