Subject: A. flavum ssp. tibeticum

Jim,

I must be missing something. The only flavum I could find on the web page
you referenced is Arisaema flavum subsp. abbreviatum (Schott) J. Murata.
Hardly a "giant", not as tall as ssp. flavum, and not tibeticum at all.

It seems there are two kinds of ssp. tibeticum as well. The kind I've gro=wn
(more precisely killed) have a pure lemon yellow spathe with no purple
spots that are noticeable, beautiful. But Anne Chambers has seen hundreds
of them with purple spots in Tibet. The ranges would indicate these must =be
ssp. tibeticum too. She also has some growing in Scotland.

She generously let me try one of these and it bloomed with purple. It was
quite short compared to the other clear yellow tibeticums I've grown.

Unfortunately A. flavum in any flavor doesn't grow well for me. Two years=is
about max before it dies. I suppose it's the very hot sticky summers that
do it in. I've tried several micro climates, soil types, and exposures wi=th
no success. Thus I can't help you with your quest. I do hope you find the
tall (relatively), pure yellow one. It's a delight.

Ray
