The potting soil that I use also has ground sphagnum.  For some reason,
mostly market forces, Turface is not available here in Corvallis: the two
outlets that carried it have now dropped it.  It was tops for fine contro=l
of moisture content, but the one nursery person that I asked why they had
dropped it said that it tended to absorb moisture over time and therefore
did not have a very good shelf-life in such a humid environment. He also
indicated to me that folks complained about the price. It does not compet=e
with local pumice in that regard.  Sigh.
