Hi Gene and fellow AEGers,
Happy holidays! The Arisaema dracontium 'giant form' seeds you sent me have
almost all, starting about 2 weeks ago, each put out a root in their damp
paper towel. I put the seed ON THE SURFACE of several small pots of
Scott's potting soil with the root pointing into the soil. These are kept
slightly moist on a cool shady windowsill until the seed body starts to be
lifted up into the air. It looks wierd, but this works perfectly for Ari
seeds, and most important they don't rot. The first pot of 10 are now under
flourescent lights with my orchids and my resprouting 2nd growth cycle AEG
seedex2000 Ari's. Thanks again, they are very vigorous.
I hope to have plantlets to share with AEG next year. I didn't get much in
the way of seeds this year (straight species and hybrid) except Arum
italicum pictum. - - - - - Any of you may inquire of me and I will
mail them to you.
Now, does anyone know how I can keep my A. kishidae tuberlets from
collapsing? They're on soil surface also and I just watered with a
Natriphene/Captan solution. So far the only aroids outpacing me,
multiplying past what I can use (and beyond disappointment), are Arisaema
triphyllum, consanguineum, flavum, Arum italicum, and of course Sauromatum
(Typhonium) venosum.
