Ive seen in some catalogs, and not the fine specialty growers who may belong to
and/or are well known to our group, Aris and other plants which are obviously
directly from Kaichen and not even grown on. Only the price is jacked up many
times over. Were these tubers you mentioned in that catagory, through these
types of middlemen?
It would be easy for me to unload a mass quantity (I only bought 1 of each of
the ones I desired) to the general public. But so far horticultural friends and
members of local orchid societies have gotten voodoo lily, and Ari tubers
(excellent ones in beautiful health from Dick Cavender and Ellen Hornig) from me
that come with advice and perhaps occasionally overbearing exhortations to
culture them "properly". I try to give them a good home to ensure their
dissemination is successful and check up on their progress frequently (only I
have given up on my Sauromatum offset "crop" and give them away en masse when
I'm not busy chucking them over my neighbors' fences)

Subject: Chen Yi
I hate to revive a painful subject, but you should be aware of what's
happening.
I have it from a source directly involved in the events that Chen Yi
plants are being
sold en-mass to the unsuspecting public. Here's a quote:
"Arisaemas-every species offered by Chen Yi, (tubers- all about the size
of a chestnut) were packaged up and sold as fast as they came in, at the
San Francisco Flower Show 1999.
No one even knew if they were alive let alone right! Pictures, as close
as I can figure printed from the Net, were stapled to the packages and
everone bought them because of the picture. No one knew if they would
grow, or if they were correctly identified."
The worst fears of some of us are being realized.
