Both A. triphyllum and A. dracontium are naturalized in at least one of t=he
wetlands here, a flood plain by Lake Cayuga. It is the only place I know
where I am sure to find the latter. It sneaks out of the woods into the
open sunlight, at one point seeding itself into the railroad bed which
enforced a very dwarf growth habit. (grin) The ssp stewardsonii also grow=s
wet, much wetter than A. triphyllum, but prefers moraine conditions such =as
the gravel verges of the steam beds. It tolerates the yard here in a
raised bed of heavy clay, watered in the summer, sets some seed some year=s
but has never attained the robust three foot stature that I have seen it
assume in the wild.

I'll confirm with one of our natural resource people but I as I remember
individual A triphyllum, growing under the conditions mentioned above, ge=t
themselves up a bit onto the tufts of grassy hummock whereas A. dracontiu=m,
particularly when I have seen it in the spring, tends to be densest in th=e
muckier areas.
