Subject: Frost nipped Arisaema
Nina,
I had the same problem with both A. sikokianum and A. ringens here. I
finally moved them to the North side of the house in a nook open to the
west and north but shaded from the morning sun. Since then, I've not
suffered frost bite on these plants even when others were reduced to
"cooked spinach" (that's Ellen's delightfully descriptive phrase).
I believe it's the morning sun exposure that has most to do with them
getting up early. They're delayed by over two weeks in the site
described, but maybe 2 weeks is not enough up there.
Have you tried dry ice on the beds to keep the ground cold?
Ray
