Subject: Zantedeschia genus revision

For those of you interested in Zantedeschia,
Y. Singh, the South African Zantedeschia expert, has published the genus
revision in:
Singh, Y., Van Wyk, A.E. & Baijnath, H. 1996. Taxonomic notes on the
genus Zantedeschia Spreng. (Araceae) in southern Africa. S. Af. J. Bot.
62(6): 321-324.

Here is the key from the revision - hope the tabs survive transmission.
If not, I can send a file to those
interested.

Zantedeschia Key -
Singh, Y. 1996

1. Tuber rhizomatous; spathe interior without a purple-colored blotch at
base; ovary surrounded by 3 spathulate staminodes; lower portion of
spathe turns green while upper portion withers away during berry
maturation; inflorescense scented; summer and/or winter rainfall regions
of southern Africa [i. section Zantedeschia].

2. Spathe funnel-shaped; spadix 50-75 mm long, 5-7 mm wide; peduncle
erect during fruiting; berries turn orange and soft when ripe; widespread
in South Africa Z. aethiopica

2. Spathe cylindrical; spadix 25-35 mm long, 5-10 mm wide; peduncle
bending to ground during fruiting; berries remain green and firm when
ripe; restricted to the Nieuwoudtville District in the Western
Cape Z. odorata

1. Tuber discoid; spathe interior with or without a purple-colored blotch
at base; ovaries usually lacking staminoids (if present, restricted to
ovaries in zone between male and female); entire spathe turns green
during berry maturation; inflorescence non-scented; summer rainfall
region of southern Africa [ii Section Aestivae].

4. Spathe white; leaf lamina ovate to orbicular cordate Z.
valida

4. Spathe yellow; leaf lamina variously shaped 5.

5. Leaf lamina usually immaculate, oblong-hastate, glaucous green
Z. pentlandii

5. Leaf lamina always maculate, triangular-hastate to
ovate-orbicular, deep green 6.

6. Leaf lamina triangular-hastate Z. jucunda

6. Leaf lamina ovate-orbicular Z. elliottiana

7. Leaf lamina oblon, ovate or
triangular-hastate 8.

8. Leaf lamina oblong to ovate-hastate; spathe
tapering to the apex
Z. albomaculata
ssp. albomaculata
8. Leaf lamina triangular-hastate; spathe truncate at
the apex
Z. albomaculata
ssp. macrocarpa

7. Leaf lamina narrowly lanceolate, cunate at
base Z. rehmannii

Anyway, the species I'm missing are:

Z. albomaculata ssp. macrocarpa
Z. valida
Z. jucunda
and I'm short on:
Z. pentlandii

just in case any of you run across some of these. Rob McClure is
interested in these to.
