Subject: Questions and S.E.X.

I am happy to report flavum finally is up and I expect the others to
follow shortly.. I am a little behind some of you because I had lots o=f
>seeds from the HPS -SEX, Hardy Plant Society Seed Exchange, to plant a=s
well. I followed Jim McC=92s advise, ala Deno, the white paper towels in=a
warm closet, which I originally interrupted as the furnace closet, but af=ter
the seeds dried out too quickly, I realized that another closet was
better. The seeds are now in Turface under grow lights. Next year I will =be
ready w/pen and paper to record the number of seeds and date of planting,
and to have more fun.
I attended a fabulous lecture and slide show by Barry Yinger over
the weekend and bought A. sazensoo from him. It looks like a blooming si=ze
plant. Barry told me that to have fruit, one must have both a male and
female plant. I have been aware that a young plant is originally male =and
as it ages becomes female. My single sikokianum has bloomed for years, a=nd
has had lots of seeds, two years ago over 100. Barry explained it must
have been pollinated from the common triphyllum of which I have a sever=al.
My first question to you experts is: What does this cross produce
genetically?
Second, should I keep several plants from my new seeds and
establish small colonies?
Third, how close togr. can I plant the plants w/in a colony?
Fourth, since I don=92t have the muscles to construct the marvelous
sandwiches of sand, compost and leaves, how big a hole should I
plan to dig per plant, how wide and how deep?
Fifth, I have my grow lights on 14 hours, should they be on more or le=ss?
Finally, something, for all of us to think about.. I was and still
am, very involved in the HPS -SEX. Everyone interested sends in $10 whi=ch
pays for the S&H. You may request certain seeds and list alternates in
order of preference.. As a new member of AEG, it seems to me that sendin=g
in $10 to our SEX next year, might make
things easier for Ray and Craig. Any comments ?
