Scott,
I can't answer most of your questions, but the plant sounds more like
Arisaema A. thunbergii ssp. urashima than Arisaema griffithii even though
the one is Chinese and the other Japanese. No mention is made of a spadix
extension in the Flora of China Key. However, A. yunnanense spadix
extension is mentioned
"appendix 5-6 cm long, slightly recurved" - Not exactly trailing on the
ground.
I recommend that you key it using the Flora of China Key. Roy has it on
the Arisaema page complete with line drawings. If you need a hard copy,
AEG can supply one for the postage (about 2 bucks).
