Broadening the scope.

Welcome AEG members. We now have our own list, Arisaema-L. Please send
your thanks to Eric Gouda for all the work he's done getting the list
operational.

I see Jim Waddick's message is calling for a broad scope for Arisaema-L.
I think some caution is advisable here.
The members of this list are all AEG members. While many are interested
in other hardy aroids, messages on other hardys will reach a wider
audience on Aroid-L. I hope we will refrain from posting the same
messages to both lists. The duplication will destroy the usefulness of
Arisaema-L.

Then there's the question of what's hardy. Amorphophallus is hardy here
in North Carolina. Do you want Arisaema-L to carry all the Amorph. stuff
that's on Aroid-L?

I think we should try to keep messages predominately on Arisaema with an
occasional one on other aroids, when that seems sensible, at least for a
while. We don't want to become an alternate Aroid-L. The Mobot people and
IAS have invested time and energy making that a real resource for
aroiders. Arisaema-L was set up principally as a forum for detailed
discussions on Arisaema that might be boring to the average aroider.

You will note we are archived. The archives are updated monthly. I've
tried to get many of the old Arisaema messages from Aroid-L in the
archives so we can refer to them as time goes on.

I feel badly about the AEG members without E-mail. They'll be missing
lots of interesting discussions. Perhaps some of you will print out the
more interesting messages and snail-mail them to the deprived.
