Non-guru checks in, for what it is worth:

Well, when I was even more innocent than I am now, I left the terribly
mistreated pots of dormant A. sikokianum in a greenhouse that we hold at
about 40 deg F. They did just fine, even after having languished on the
compost pile in the heat of late summer in NC (yes, I was too stupid to
know they'd gone dormant). They're in the ground now, bloomed two years
ago and set seed (3 out of four plants) for the first time last summer.
