Cold period

Erik and Carlo raise a very interesting question. Certainly conventional
"wisdom" says that hardy arisaemas need a cold period while dormant, but I
know of no direct evidence for this.

It has been said that perhaps the reason that thje range of A. triphyllum
doesn't extend into south Florida is the lack of a cold period. Also, I'm
under the impression that the hardy arisaemas from Asia won't grow in the
deep south, but I don't know this for a fact and would wonder how many have
tried to do so.

Of course, "room temperature" in Vermont during the winter may very well BE a
cold period for most arisaemas!
