<p>Concerning your second suggestion (merging selected layers into
one new layer), that is currently possible. Create a new layer
(say gamma), make sure it is the active layer by left clicking it
and then right click another layer (say alpha). You will see the
option "merge into gamma". You can repeat this for all the layers
you want to merge into the new layer.</p>

<p>However this will delete the old layers and move all their
objects into the new one, so it is no solution to copying.</p>

<p>My workaround for duplicating a layer goes as follows: <br>
</p>
<ol style="margin-bottom:0px; margin-top:0px">
<li><span id="ms-rterangepaste-start"></span><span>select the
layer you want duplicate</span></li>
<li><span>select all elements in this layer (ctrl+shift+a)</span></li>
<li><span>create a new layer (ctrl+shift+n)</span></li>
<li><span>select the new layer, now copy (ctrl+c) and paste
(ctrl+v) the elements here.</span></li>

Is there a way to duplicate a layer?<br>

I can't find a menu voice for this.<br>
<br>
If not, it could be a good feature to add: at present I
am having a bit <br>
of pain because I need it and I can't find a viable
workaround.<br>

Even better, IMHO it would be nice to have a feature
which create a new <br>
layer merging together selected layers.<br>
