[Ipe-discuss] isy file: personal symbology

The easiest way to create symbols is to use the "Symbols" ipelet. It's in your Ipelets menu as "Symbols".

Start by adding an empty style sheet to your document, for instance this one:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE ipestyle SYSTEM "ipe.dtd">
<ipestyle name="kitsymbol">

Then draw the symbol you want in Ipe. It has to be a single object, so in the end you have to make it a group. The reference point of the symbol will be the bottom left corner of your paper (more precisely, the point (0,0)), so you may want to draw the symbol around that point.

Select the new object, and use the operation "create symbol (in top stylesheet)". It will ask you for a name for the symbol, and it will then be added to the stylesheet (assuming that "kitsymbol" is at the top of your stylesheet list).

You can add more symbols in the same way. If you are not happy with one, modify it, and use "create symbol (in top stylesheet)" again with the same name - it will tell you that a symbol already exists and then allow you to replace it.

Finally, use the stylesheet dialog (Shift+Ctrl+S) to save the new stylesheet.

You can use the symbols using the operation "use symbol" from the Symbols ipelet.
