For a booth where we were presenting our topic to non-specialists, I made a presentation that was more like a poster than the slides for a talk (I probably only had 3 slides). It was on a big screen, and there were several embedded videos playing at the same time. Several of us were commenting different parts of the screen to different people. I think this would have been hard to achieve with separate windows.

Checking the sources, I used beamer, the multimedia package (\movie), and okular --presentation to show it. From the size of files, the videos don't seem to be embedded in the PDF, just referenced from it. If I remember correctly, quite a few PDF viewers have some support for videos, but quite unreliable, and the table matching latex packages with the viewers that managed to show the result was very sparse.

This is just a data point, posters with videos are probably not such a common use case.
