For O.C. who asked about this message yesterday:

  "Ipe has been compiled using the header files of Freetype version
  2.3.9, but is linked with Freetype library version 2.3.7. No text
  display is possible."

Freetype 2.3.9 just migrated to testing, so you can now fix the error
with an update.
