Hi Kostas,

  I suspect that in the long run your life will probably be easier if 
you use a document class such as beamer for the slides - see

http://latex-beamer.sourceforge.net/

- and Ipe for creating pictures to be included in the slides.

Ipe is very good for pictures, and beamer is very good for slides.
