First of all I apologize to everyone for not participating. As
soon as I started in this group I had an accident and my
youngest son died. That winter, between sorrow and pain, I
neglected my greenhouse and the cold destroyed a large part of
my plant collection. Orchids, carnivorous, aquatic, ferns and
of course my young arisaemas. None of them were important at
that time. Last years I was retired from groups and other
activities. By the time I started to get slightly out of the
deepest well of my life, the pandemic arrived and here we are.

I don't like Facebook, I hardly ever log in, but it's true
that it works for a lot of people. I am in several WhatsApp
and Telegram groups that work very well if there are less than
one hundred members or so.

WEB forums are also very useful, I use them daily for
fishkeeping, microscopy and electronics. We can join perfectly
to an existing one (that any of you recommend) since we will
surely not be a burden for them.

But if you prefer, I can create a web forum and a web page
specifically for us, for the group, with a place for photos,
announcements or whatever you want. I have no problem, if you
give me a few days, I will do it. The site https://sadelplata.org was
created a lot of years ago, and will be updated in next months
with new articles and activities, but it can work as a sample.
A website specific with species taxonomy treatment and general
information, with photos and all articles on web pages have
automatically created their corresponding PDF version. It has
a web forum attached for members or the general public. Using
something pre-existing is faster and simpler, but if you
prefer to have our own site we can build it together, you
would provide the information and I'll convert it to the web's
format.

Thanks Néstor, but we do have our own domain and website:
https://arisaema-l.nl/ and https://aroids.nl/ and I can easily
include a forum my self (I run an owned Linux server), but I do
not think that will make a difference. We even have our own
Gallery in FloraPix, but not much activity. This will not change
with a forum. What could help is a person that is the motor in
these things, like Ray was. I know mailman is not very user
friendly mail service and have bad archiving, but could work with
a person like that, even when old fashioned.

I have been unable to keep up with plant
interests over the past few years, and am nominally a
member of many plant groups on Facebook. I have not taken
part in them for several years and will not start again,

and other platforms. They also perform a great deal of
nudging of various other agendas, basically good for
governments and large multinational companies, but very
destructive to society.

One forum which I used to frequent, and
hope to do so again, is the Scottish Rock Garden Club

with the Scottish Rock Garden Club's blessings.

A Facebook group may be the way to go, as photos can
be easily included with questions and discussions.
There is already one Arisaema Facebook group I bet
many members here are already a part of. In some
ways I miss the old forums and list serves but I
think they are becoming fossils in the cyber

Dear AEG members,

It seems that the only activity left in our
group is the Seed Exchange, which is maybe
because of the use of our old fashioned email
discussion list. From the Archives we can
learn that there are little or no discussions
beside the SeedEx messages. We have our own
FloraPix Gallery that can be used to post
pictures, but also discuss plants. It is
really a pity that it has not been used much
over the last years.

My question is, should we switch to for
example Facebook with our group to activate
and modernize our group? Or are we becoming a
fossil group? Unfortunately Ray Stilwell
became too old and left the group in 2007, he
was the motor of the group and was not
replaced. I was involved in 1997 or maybe even
before and created the email list and started
organizing the website and SeedEx, which I run
for over 20 years now.

If we want to continue the group, I think we
need somebody like Ray who keeps the group
enthusiastic and going (live discussions
etc.). I could be involved for the website,
seed list and gallery if needed, but will be
not much longer in current position at the
Botanic Garden (1.5 year max, have reached the
age of 65 some time ago).

It is up to you, lets start discuss our
future now, before it is too late.
