received the AEG seeds yesterday. Thank you. But every seed
packet had been opened by the USDA Plant Inspection Service,<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">and stapled
back or taped shut. This may have just been an isolated
agent being over-zealous. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">It makes me a
little uncomfortable to have the service opening the
packets, since it would be easy to spill them. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"> I wrote the
person who did the inspection, see below, and she said that
the reason was that the packets were not transparent.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

is our policy to open and inspect any shipments that come
into the PIS. The purpose of the PIS is to protect
American agriculture from insects or seeds that are
prohibited or potentially invasive. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span

have found live nematodes in packages of small seed lots.
Usually, these are not actionable pests, but it is our job
to make sure that nothing comes into the country that
could have an impact on agriculture. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:black">It
is probable that the seed packages would not be opened if
they were transparent. Some importers use tiny, zip lock
bags which are not damaged by opening. Yes, I agree,
transparent packaging is much more efficient. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

before with seeds I’ve gotten before. Is this because they
were in non-transparent white paper envelopes? If so,<o:p></o:p></span></p>

please let me know and I will inform the guy who mails the
seeds from Europe and maybe next year it can be <o:p></o:p></span></p>
