[Arisaema-l] Donations/Seedex

Hi Eric
I’ve been with
AEG for some years. Having started with seeds which were sent every year, only
now do I have some to send back. However there is a problem. I had labelled the
plants with so called indelible ink but the sun bleached it completely so I
lost track of what they were. Now I use a lead pencil. I also don’t know if it was self pollinated or
with what it was crossed as I have the various plants close to each other. I believe
the mother plant was A.flavum but am not sure. If you would be interested in
receiving these seeds I’ll gladly send them to you. They were collected about a
month ago and are cleaned
Regards
Colin

Oggetto: Re: [Arisaema-l] Donations/Seedex

Hi Robert, Welcome to the AEG, and I will answer your question on the list because it has some aspects that are of interest to the group too. Up till now we only distribute seeds and I think we keep it this way for two reasons: USA permits are only about seeds and because of the size of tubers that are easily cracked in the mail when not properly packed. Nevertheless we did some peer to peer tuber exchange or donations in the past and those initiatives are highly appreciated. Seed donations can be done throughout the year and seeds will be stored on Silica at about 3% rH, this to avoid any infection on the long run. Best regards, Eric

(My hardiness-zone is 6(b), the garden about 630m above sea-level, Southern Germany, near to the Alps, about 1100mm annual precipitation, the summer is generally rather humid). In Winter 2008/09 we had several weeks of frost (without snow!) at about -14°C constantly. February 2012 we had an unusual cold period of 14 days: At least -15°C, several nights with -23°C, less than 20cm snow. Although these climate-conditions seem to me very different from the region where this species comes from, it grows easily in the garden and 4 of 5 plants grow well  until now (planted in a depth of 20-25cm, well drained, with a layer of leaves on the surface in winter). Some flowered, but didn’t set seed.
