Thanks a lot Colin for this promt reply! I do have Styldium graminifolium, which I want to try outdoor this winter. Our winter teperatures go down to -15°C, so lets see what will happen ;-) Of course I will protect them a little bit...
best regards,
Gerfried

Hi Gerfried,
It depends upon the species you have as to where they have come from in the mountains.
As a general rule most Stylidium from my way will take frost down to -4 C or so. They will take snow for short periods of a couple of weeks at a time.
Some Drosera go deciduous in Winter or times of drought. Others have to brave the elements. They are mostly in moist seeps and thus have a little more protection due to the energy
Required to freeze the extra moisture around them. It is not very much extra protection though. Most that I know are hardy to -4 C or so.
I am a little lower down from the higher “peaks”, 1000m, (we are more like big hills when compared to Europe) so I only get down to -2 C.
I hope this helps you a bit. Let me know the species and I may be a little more use.
Regards Colin

Hi Colin,
sorry members of the group, for something little bit off topic:
I am growing some Drosera and Stylidium from Blue mountains - I wonder what are the minimum temperatures there? You mentioned, that you get some snow sometimes... Does it freeze there sometimes? Is there a chance, that the plants will be hardy in Europe?
thanks a lot for your answer!
best regards from Austria to Australia ;-)
Gerfried

I am up in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. Around 700m above sea level.
We get occasional flurries of snow in Winter but nothing that stays on the ground.
I would be interested in trading plant material or seed with Australian growers.
Hard to do with Tassie though.

Hello All,
It was suggested that an introduction should be made.
I am a poor plant nut to say the least. I Live in Australia and have been growing one thing or another for most of my life.
I spent several years working in nurseries and ran a landscaping business for some time.
These days I teach Horticulture for a living.
I have been growing some Arisaema and other aroids for at least six years or so after a friend gave me some. Most grow quite well for me but some are shy to flower.
My biggest problem would probably be not having them in the ground. I like the control pot culture gives but have numbers of some to try in ground now.
Very interested in obtaining more species so have been madly importing seed from all over.
The seed exchange here looks very interesting, I like the concept of sharing plants as it has served my friends and I well on several occasions when there is a loss. We can just give some back.
I will probably be an occasional visitor and reader/poster as there is not much time for everything these days.
Regards Colin
