I was warned many years=A0ago not to grow Pinellia=A0because of their=weed=
iness
The only one I have is the sterile 'Poly Spout', and it doesn't have that==
nutlet,
or at least not that I've seen...hence the ID request. I suppose it deser=v=
es
a name before I extirpate it.

=A0"Polly Spout' is an artificially produced hybrid of P. pedatisecta &=P.=
tripartita atropurpurea =A0(created by Dick Weaver of WeDu Nursery). I=t's=
sterile, producing neither seed nor bulbils, and is a great garden plant=,=
clumping up and having characteristics of both parents.

Most Pinellia tend to be quite weedy, especially the ones that make the b=u=
lbils. P. ternata is particularly obnoxious. It's name is often preceded=
by "the dreaded"!

For those who don't know, the easiest way for me to tell a Pinellia from=
an Arisaema is that in the former the back of the spadix is fused to the==
spathe.

P. cordata makes bulbils, but its variegated form is so attractive that i=t=
's worth a spot in the garden.

Jim
