Dear Friends,
Things have been a bit quiet here and the weather continues
cold, dull and damp. I thought I'd throw out a new topic.

Last week I went to the Open House at Pine Knot Farms in VA.
http://www.pineknotfarms.com/ In addition to an amazing range of
Hellebores, Barry Yinger of Asiatica Nursery and John Lonsdale of
Edgewood Garden http://www.edgewoodgardens.net/ had sales
tables set up. Both had a slew of special plants for sale.

Barry had wonderful, rare and exceedingly tempting woody,
herbaceous and bulbous plants of all types, but I fell for a few
Arisaema tubers he had for sale.

You probably all know of Asiatica. It is one of the premier
nurseries for rare Asian plants from tropical to temperate. He also
sells about 3 dozen different Arisaema species and selections. Three
dozen !!

http://www.asiaticanursery.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.viewCategory/=catID/2/index.htm

All of his tubers are blooming size and he sells a few extra
large tubers the size of baking potatoes. Huge things.
I was very impressed with the quality and selection. Prices mostly
ranged at just over $20 each which is quite reasonable considering
the blooming size, quality and rarity of his offerings. Larger and
rarer items were slightly higher priced.

The tubers I bought are either still dormant or just starting
to produce roots. This is a perfect time to get them and keep them
until the garden is ready. I up potted mine a bit, but did not start
watering yet (as instructed).

Bottom line is that this is a great time to get ahold of a
lot of different Arisaema at decent prices. I don't know anywhere
else you can find this selection. I recommend that you check out the
web site, request a catalog or call and see what is available now.

Oh and there's one more I had to have that is in transit.
Can't have too many.

Enjoy Jim W.

ps I should say this is an unsolicted message without Barry's
knowledge or approval.
