Hi Jim
It's funny how plant's personalities change when they're let loose abroad==
.
Pinellia ternata is said to be native here, though like many plants it ma==
y have
been introduced from China centuries ago. Although it's pretty common in ==
the
countryside, especially on banks of ricefields, it's never invasive, even==
in my
thanks to hawkmoth larvae; probably a Rhagastis sp. (they also love the= =
Arisaemas and Amorphophallus.) I've found that less water and more sun= =
produces darker purple spathes - shade and ample water gets you green.
I've been growing Pinellia tripartita in a pot for several years now, and==
it is
very well-behaved. Forgive me for disregarding your advice, but I am look==
ing
for P. pedatisecta too - three strikes and I'm out I guess... :)
Biarum caught my interest after a Curtis's article a few years ago, but t==
he
seeds go quickly when available at the AGS, and I've never been lucky=2=0
enough. Perhaps this coming year?
Other than Arisaema kiusianum (I have a single plant) and A. cordatum (wh==
ich
I lust for) do you have any other small species of that genus you'd
recommend?
Cheers!
Michael
