Hi Adam and all,

I guess now I have to send the seeds in for the SeedEx! These plants wer=e
grown from seed from the AES 2005 seed distribution, lot #64a, JH (G).

I grew them in a 10 inch (25 cm) diameter bulb pan in my gritty bulb mix,
under lights. The seedlings grew for 3 to 4 months, then yellowed off th=e
leaves; I then let them go dry and stored in the fridge at ca 39 F/ +4 C
for 3 months. After the three months' chilling, I returned the pot to ro=om
temperature under the lights and again watered. This was
repeated year-round until one of the plants bloomed. After that, I grew
them in the greenhouse, letting them grow when they wanted to. This grow=th
cycle is not yet completely settled down. This past spring, I moved the
dormant pot out of the greenhouse to the lath house, where four of the fi=ve
plants bloomed. I hand-pollinated, using an eye-dropper and a bit of wat=er
to pick up pollen and transfer to the next bloom.

When the seeds are germinating and the seedlings still small, I water fro=m
below. Now I water from above. I don't think this species needs to be
chilled, just keep it dry when you want it to be dormant. Can anyone spe=ak
to this from experience?

We usually use soluble plant food (Jack's Professional 20-10-20 Peat Lite=)
to give 100 ppm nitrogen in the water on a continuous liquid feeding
program. One level teaspoonful should weigh about 5 grams, and therefore
would contain 1 gram (1000 mg) of nitrogen. "100 ppm" is 100 mg in 1 Lit=er
of water, of 378 mg per US gallon. Use just under 1/2 level teaspoonful =of
dry fertilizer crystals per US gallon of water. If I hand-water somethin=g,
I feed every other watering using 200 ppm nitrogen. This level (200 ppm =N)
also gives 200 ppm K (potassium) and 100 ppm P (phosphate).
