=A0 This looks like rot. The sloughing off tends to be a very thin laye=r of=
material without the gelatinous goo. I see this most often in the Japane=se=
species where a large portion of the tuber will rot out, but heal just f=in=
e. Over a few years the tuber tends to shrink and eventually disappear. T=he=
candidissimum group rarely ever has this happen, at least with me. Arisa=em=
a saxatile did this the first year I had it, but healed and actually spli=t =
into three tubers. Ever since then it multiplies each year and sets a dec=en=
t amount of seed.
