Tubers rotten/Arisaema griffithii

Thanks Tony,

The peat was dry, the baggie was in my refrigerator along with similar packages of other Arisaema tubers, all of which are still fine. These are checked monthly, opened gently and with no touching and definitely no bruising. There was no condensation inside the baggie, yet one side of the griffithii tuber started going soft, collapsing without rot. Too dry I thought? Took it out and potted it in barely damp new sterile ProMix and placed it on a cool floor area indoors. The shoot started to expand.

Last year on several tubers the shoots were the first to go. In years previous I actually had some success getting plants up with 1 aborted bloom! Now the "point" was actually expanding and breaking mix surface. It stopped 2 weeks ago, I checked it, it was soft.Unpotted the tuber exhibited rotting edges with bad smell.

Scooped out, soaked in 3% hydrogen peroxide, wiped off and dusted with Comet it now sits hanging in a shopping bag of dry sphagnum that I plucked from my bog planters last summer. Hoping for the best.

Such is my lament. I do well with winter dormant Amorphophallus and terrestrial orchid tubers, even some touchy Habenaria erichmichelii, but griffithii does not even make it to the August rain-filled-week basal stem rot and collapse of galateum, lobatum, wilsonii, and dahiense (anyone still have that last one?)

Bonaventure
