Tubers rotten

Georgio,

It's lucky you had an honest seller; at least you got your money back.

All the tuberous aroids are prone to this during shipping. When I ship I
wrap each tuber no earlier than the evening before shipment and never,
ever use plastic to wrap a dormant tuber. (Well, not *never* but surely
it's almost always a bad idea.) It's fairly common to have at least
mild fungus problems as a result of shipping. At least sometimes this is
caused by improper harvesting, improper storage and improper shipping
protection. Tubers should be wrapped individually and packed tightly to
restrict movement in the box to minimize jostling and bruising during
shipment.

I had one shipment from Thailand that arrived with many, many damaged
tubers (not Arisaemas). The packing job was horrible. I sent two tubers
to my university extension service for diagnosis. One was infested with
a penicillin dry-rot and one was infested with bulb mites (according to
them).
