Zone 4 is pretty tough. You might want to test some of the hardier Japan=es=
e species
like ringens=2C serratum=2C yamatense=2C kishidae=2C maximowiczii==2C & its =
susp. tashiroi (gorgeous).
These species are usually listed at zone 5. With some snow to insulate th=in=
gs they may do well.
As I said in my first post=2C I just picked up ovale corms this fall. =I ha=
ve high hopes for them
given their relationship to amurense & their distribution in Japan. I'll=h=
ave to wait till spring to find out.

Hi Everyone=2C I joined a couple years back=2C introduced myself=2C=and the=
n I have never posted anything...until now. And yes I too got hooked with=A=
. sikokianum. I hate to change the direction a bit=2C but Erick's list =of =
species got me thinking. I live in Ottawa(USDA zone 4) and have been slow=ly=
building a collection. My climate limits me and I really want to focus o=n =
species that can survive outside. Aroid.org has a hardiness section which=h=
as been one of my guides. Considering this is the season of exchanges and=n=
ew seed lists=2C does anyone out there have any suprising suggestions? =I cu=
rrently have A. triphyllum=2C draconitum=2C amurense=2C candidissim=um=2C fl=
avum=2C flavum abbreviatum=2C sikokianum=2C tortuosum=2C consangu=ineum=2C h=
etrophyllum=2C exappendiculatum(inside)=2C and taiwanense. I plan to =try A =
jacquemontii=2C ringens=2C franchetianum=2C fargesii=2C ciliatum =liubaense =
and griffithii this year. I would welcome any input from more experienced=g=
rowers.
