How do they look? Horticultural improvements?

It is characteristic of the F1 generation that progeny will be =
intermediate in most respects., size, coloration altough coloration can =
be puzzling because one does not know the genetic determinants, and =
"intermediate" between say, purple and yellow may be purple. etc. =
Segregation, variation, mixing and combining of different plant =
characteristics occur in the F2 and subsequent generations.
