I'm in my third season of growing Arisaema and I've had modest success. I=joined the AEG to learn more so that I could be more successful and I've=been watching and reading all the emails I get from the group. My bigges=t problem has been to get the plant back for a second season. I've grown =some fantastic plants that looked health, were hardy in my zone (7a), and=grew the entire season. I get nothing the next spring. I buy most of my =plants from Plant Delights in NC because they have a large variety. This =year I did 2 things differently, I purchased some seeds from a member and=I dicovered a local area were hugh numbers of 'Jack-in-the-Pulpits' grow=as native Maryland plants. I collected about 40 of them and replanted th=em in my gardens. I still have 36 of them, including one that is almost 2=feet tall and several close to 18 inches tall. There appears to be 3 var=ieties and I've planted them in different parts of my many gardens to det=ermine what conditions they grow best in!
so tha
t I can duplicate the conditions in a future bed devoted to them. With th=e seeds I had less success but I've learned from that experience and wdil=l correct my efforts in the future. Last fall I buught 7 new plants from =Plant Delights. Four of them are up and Plant Delights has agreed, withou=t any hassles, to replace the other 3 plants. I would like to grow more p=lants from seeds and would appreciate feed back on how I can get various =types of arisaema seeds. I get the impression from the emails that the gr=oup has a seed exchange, but I have not gotten far enough in my growing t=o have seeds to share. Is it possible to purchase seeds from the group? A=nother of my efforts to get better at growing arisaemas is through readin=g. I'm currently studying Gusman's The Genus Arisaema' and would apreciat=e suggestions of other reasonablely priced books on growing these plants.=I will appreciate any suggestion from members of this group.
John
