As I mentioned earlier, we had trouble with the Himalayan species until
we planted them under a large tree or large conifer where it stayed
very dry in the summer months.&nbsp; You might give this a try.<br>

<div>Hey Tony (and others).</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Well, we should probably hold off on the congratulations until
next spring!&nbsp; I give watti little to no chance here in this climate.=&nbsp;
Last year nepenthoides, speciosum, and other&nbsp;Himalayans bloomed then
crashed - but I blame that on soil retaining too much moisture.&nbsp; Kil=led
several that way.&nbsp; I'm trying a few again this year in different soi=l.&nbsp;
It is interesting to note that the costatum blooming now is one of last
summer's survivors, as is the amurense.&nbsp;&nbsp;I figure the Japanese
varieties should be easier for me in this climate.&nbsp; My urashimas and
ringens have been kicking around here for almost 20 years now, the
others are new but I don't anticipate trouble from them.&nbsp; Probably
shouldn't have said that.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>I love to hear what everyone is growing, and its progress.&nbsp; I='d
especially like to know what has worked - and what hasn't -&nbsp;for any =of
you folks in zones 7-9.&nbsp; I feel like I'm on a deserted island down h=ere!</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Thanks, Russell&nbsp;&nbsp; 8b</div>

<div>Hey Y'all.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Here on the Gulf Coast the azaleas finished blooming 3 weeks
ago so we are well past "spring".&nbsp; It hasn't rained here since the
first week of March.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>My old family of ringens&nbsp;planted in the garden were up an=d
in full bloom the first of part of March,&nbsp;and the flowers still look
good.&nbsp; Next was wattii (the mysterious A-147), but the flowers laste=d
only a week.&nbsp; My amurense from C. Y. bloomed for the second year and
set seed.&nbsp; One of my iyoanum ssp. nakaianums bloomed a month ahead o=f
the second, and I noticed that the first seems to be setting seed.&nbsp;
Engleri and ternatipartitum&nbsp;have already bloomed, and costatum is on
its way out too.&nbsp; Kiushianum is in all its glory right now.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Saxatile and thunbergii ssp. urashima&nbsp;are both up, but
apparently still too small to bloom. :-(&nbsp; Hopefully next year.&nbsp;=Many
others just breaking the soil surface!</div>
