Nothing like Government policy to stir up discussion. Firstly my sincere= ==0D
thanks to all concerned with this years seed exchange, to those who grew= ==0D
the plants, collected the seed, cleaned the seed and found it in their= ==0D
hearts to donate them for distribution. To all concerned with
distribution, sorting and packaging a big THANK YOU, I have now added=2=0
eight new varietys to my collection.
It is interesting to note that those in the USA have had seed confiscated===0D
and are obviosly dissappointed, but as I recieved seed from donors in USA===0D
,
I wonder if they may have to set up an exchange group 'within' there own= ==0D
border and only import varietys (with the necessary permits)that are not= ==0D
currently available. I fear that we in New Zealand will have to do this i===0D
n
the near future. Our government as a list of allowable species and outsid===0D
e
this it is cost prohibitave to import, however, I recently had two specie===0D
s
added to this list,namely A. taiwanense and A. heterophyllum as I could= ==0D
prove that they were freely available in New Zealand. If we can formulate===0D
a list of currently available species in New Zealand, compare with the= ==0D
list and apply to have un-listed species added it would be better for all===0D
=2E
I already have two other species that are not on the list, A.utile and= ==0D
A.fargesii and will in the future apply to have them added. I am prepared===0D
to formulate and manage this but I need other New Zealand members to let= ==0D
me know what/where and who has them, then we may also be able to exchange===0D
seed etc. within our border.
If interested please feel free to contact me directly on my email.
