Subject: Bloom under the Bench

Hi all,

We returned from a week in California to attend the 3rd International
Clivia Symposium at the Huntington Gardens, to find Arisaema engleri in
bloom under a bench in the greenhouse. I'd swear that there was no sign =of
growth in that pot before we left!

This pot of A. engleri was leafless and presumed dead all last year, afte=r
having been planted in late winter 2003-2004. Unfortunately, I think AA.
grififthii and speciosum were leafless due to a severe case of death. I
guess I'll try them again.

Is it too late to get dormant tubers of AA. griffithii and/or speciosum y=et
this spring? Who has them for sale?

Spring is definitely coming to central Indiana. The Iris reticulata are =in
bloom, and so is Trillium nivale. Ornithogalum balanse is blooming in th=e
rock garden. No signs of any outdoor Arisaema are showing above ground
yet, of course.

Regards,
Jim Shields
in central Indiana
