Hi all,
We do international business all the time, and payments can be a
pain. This past week, we tried paying a bill to a friend in Peoples
Republic of China by Western Union. I don't know what the relative
exchange rate was, but the process of simplicity itself. The fee was abo=ut
2.5%. He had the money, in Yuan, in no more than a few hours.
Paypal costs at least 5% and has limits on amounts you can transfer unles=s
you get a commercial account. I avoid Paypal.
We pay bills overseas often using our normal personal bank account checks
in dollars. We add $10-$15 for fees at the other end. The person you ar=e
paying probably needs to have a relationship with a bank to cash them, I
suppose.
People can buy US dollar bank checks at American Express offices to pay
us. I do not know what the fees are. The checks are issued in US dollar=s
payable on a New York bank, which means we can cash them anywhere in the =USA.
All these are for transactions that amount to more than $100, so for smal=l
payments like send $15 to AEG for seeds, cash is likely to be the best
way. If you are worried about theft in the mails, put the notes in a
birthday card!
