It is relatively simple for us to get foreign money here in Canada.
There are currency exchange businesses downtown, including Custom
House which also operates in Australia, banks, credit unions which
have lower fees than banks, friends who've returned from overseas
with odd bits of cash ...
Can't you find somewhere cheaper than a bank? I kept my money in a
post office account when I worked in New Zealand.
Why don't you find some U.S. tourists and trade some money with them?
The Americans still have small paper bills, unlike Canada and the
U.K. One dollar bills are great - one or two can be sent to repay
postage for a requested catalogue or packet of seeds.
