Hi, Ellen, Pascal: The Arisaema flavum ssp. tibeticum growing
outside here for a couple of years, has been in flower for a couple
of days now with leaves just starting to unfurl. The stalk is stiff
so the flower stands straight, (no leaning or flopping like the ssp
abbreviatum) but it is still a lot shorter, just a bit over a foot
(30cm) in height (and not yet fully extended), yellow with a dark
throat. According to the chopstick markers, there had been two.
Only one has (yet) appeared. :( The site is well drained at the
base of an 80 foot locust but they were planted in the wedge of rock
crevice which likely stays cooler and holds moisture longer than the
slope around. They (now it) emerges and flower several weeks ahead
of ssp abbreviatum.
