Hello and thanks for the great tips on culture of the cabbage. I would
be very interested in trying it again if anyone has extras. Julius is a
great source for many answers to aroid problems. One of my good friends
who I could listen to for hours on end about aroids. He is more excited
about some aroids than people who just started getting into them. As for
the heat of the flowering cabbage many aroids produce heat when
flowering to enhance the smell. Though I only know skunk cabbage to
actually melt the snow away as the others would not grow in the snow. I
remember reading exactly what they thought caused this but it escapes me
at the moment. A chemical reaction I believe? I do know last year my
Philos selloum was blooming and the smell of old fruit filled the
greenhouse. Getting close to the flower which was 1ft tall. I could
really get a good smell of it. I put my hand close to the bloom and the
heat was unreal. The plant was producing very noticeable heat from the
flower. It was literally enough to heat your hands. It is extremely
amazing.
